Clever with Music is an educational program where music and movement is used to assist children with development and learning. Children between the ages of three months and seven years will benefit from the program because the program is intended to develop children with activities where learning takes place on a fun and exciting way, without doing formal work. Not all children achieve milestones at the same time or age but this program is all about development and learning and not about performance.

Get Started

Every musical composition we utilize is meticulously crafted in-house. This exemplifies the Clever with music methodology.

How do kids learn:

Visual

The child prefers to see the information

Auditory

The child prefers to hear information

Kinesthetic

The child likes to move and experience while he learns

About the Program:

This program a new, fresh, bilingual music and movement program for the South African community. It is intended to develop children from 3 months to 6 years with activities where learning takes place without doing “formal work”. All children do not achieve milestones at the same time and/or age. Therefore, this program is about development and learning, not about performance.

The program provides age-appropriate activities.

With this program you can start your own business with children, music and movement.

Facilitators receive training on the presentation for different age groups as well as Teachers in Preschools.

“Music molds the mind,” writes Susan Barry, professor of neurobiology at Mount Holyoke College, referring to that window of opportunity, or developmental stage, at which children are most receptive to music’s benefits.

“Making music actively engages the brain’s synapses, and there is good reason to believe that it increases the brain’s capacity by increasing the connections among neurons.” While babies, toddlers and young children participate in music-based activities, their muscles, senses, emotions and intellect are engaged simultaneously;  they are exercising their brains in ways that they rarely do.

Child Development:

DEVELOPING SKILLS

Learning styles take place in three ways:

Visual – The child prefers to see the information

Auditory – The child prefers to hear information

Kinesthetic – The child likes to move and experience while he learns

To develop and learn in full, all three these modalities are strengthened. For example, when a child’s learning preference is visual, the auditory, and kinesthetics modalities must be addressed and developed.

This program includes ALL three learning modalities as well as ALL the SENSES.

WHY IS THIS UNIQUE?

New, well researched South African Music and Movement program, Bilingual, Afrikaans and English.
With this program, multi-sensory learning takes place. All the senses, the brain, and the muscles work together simultaneously.
Body awareness it the first key to self-confidence.
The whole family is involved through music, activities and stories
It is fun!

What makes this program different from just watching a DVD?

In this program, the toddler must listen to specific sounds and commands before responding. Therefore, it develops his/her listening skills, as well as body control and concentration. Different sounds are identified, and when the sound is accompanied by visual representation and a specific movement associated with that, auditory(hearing), visual(seeing) and movement(muscles) skills are developed simultaneously. This all takes place during only ONE ACTIVE activity!

To look at a DVD is more a PASSIVE activity.

Music improves learning and cognitive development. Studies show that music helps our brain’s development, increasing our cognitive skills.

According to Elaine Winter in her article: “Education and the brain”, she states the following:

“While many schools are cutting music programs and spending more and more time on test preparation, our findings suggest that musical training may actually help set up children for a better academic future.”

    PRESCHOOLS

Preschools teacher often do not have training in music and are comfortable with just playing songs for children. By doing so, children are deprived of a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fun of active participation in music and ‘learning’ in an interactive way.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT PRESCHOOLS INCLUDE MUSIC AS PART OF THE CURRICULUM?

Research has shown that children develop better memory skills, express themselves better creatively and develop more confidence when using music as a medium.

Preschool teachers often do not have training in music and are comfortable with just playing songs for children. But by doing so, children are deprived of a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fun of active participation in music and ‘learning’ in an interactive way.

Music makes all the lights in the brain shine!

The most important development period for children is from birth to 6 years. They are like sponges during this period!

Lise - Mari Goosen -- Occupational Therapist

This is a wonderful program for the optimal development of children. The music as a medium creates a relaxed and enjoyable environment for children to learn. For a child what is more fun than to listen to music, dance sing and play. I can definitely recommend the program.

    About the Director

    Corné Kotze

My three passions in life are music, teaching and the brain development of children, especially babies and toddlers. A friend of mine, Elsa Zandberg and I realized there is a need for a new, fresh music and movement program for young children.

“Clever with Music/Slim met Musiek” happened and what a privilege for me to combine my three passions in one program! This is a new South African music and movement program that focus on whole brain development for children 3 months to 5 years old.

I am so proud to present this program to you to use and to make many happy moments and memories in the “Clever with Music/Slim met Musiek” music class.
